Umbro-Marchigian 19th-century display cabinet, made of solid light cherrywood, with a warm, even patina in soft blond tones.
A cabinet from the mid-19th century, well proportioned and with a clean, linear design, featuring a four-door front—an uncommon solution—articulated by slender, fully turned columns. The solid wooden sides and light-coloured lacquered interior create a balanced contrast, giving the cabinet a clear, readable presence that feels relevant even today.
The upper cornice, deliberately pronounced, is the defining element of the piece: it shapes the overall profile and gives the cabinet a strong, easily recognisable presence.
This cabinet was conceived for a specific purpose: to store and display books, volumes, and objects at a time when owning them was far from commonplace. It evokes a way of living typical of a cultivated, refined bourgeois home, where the bookcase was an integral part of domestic life and the study.
An intact and original piece, carefully restored (structurally consolidated, cleaned, and finished with shellac), retaining its authentic antique character and now well suited to a contemporary interior, without losing its identity.
