A humble country table, with a light and honest soul

Field Table in Fir, 18th Century

A demountable fratino, bare and essential

More than a table, a travelling companion. This demountable fratino, made of solid fir, is a rare example of field furniture from the rural tradition of central Italy in the 1700s. It wasn’t built to decorate, but to serve. Lightweight, sturdy, straightforward—meant to be carried, reassembled, and used out in the open: at fairs, in markets, under a canopy or the sky, wherever a steady, reliable surface was needed.

Its trestle base, joined by wooden pegs still intact, speaks the language of necessity and humble ingenuity. Every board bears the marks of time and use, and none of it has been redone: it’s all original, simply reinforced and left with its own flavour. No varnish to mask the fir’s grain, no fake patina—just wood, dry and aged, with the honesty of things that stayed real.

A truly authentic piece, shaped by working hands and a rural world that knew how to make beauty out of simplicity. Today, with its compact proportions and unpretentious character, it fits almost anywhere: in a country-style veranda, in a modern space as a contrast piece, along a wall as a side table, or tucked behind a sofa. It doesn’t shout, but it feels like home.
