Ottoman Brass Brazier – The Gentle Smoke of Eastern Beauty

Large Ottoman Incense Burner in Embossed Brass Sheet – 19th Century

With its sculptural and ceremonial presence, this large incense burner in hand-embossed brass sheet originates from the area of Constantinople, the cosmopolitan and spiritual heart of the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century.

Composed of three parts — base, body, and lid — it is entirely adorned with a spiral fluting that is soft and rhythmic, enhancing its verticality. The pierced lid, topped with a decorative finial, was designed to slowly release the aromatic smoke of embers or incense during moments of contemplation, hospitality, or prayer — most likely resting on handwoven carpets in intimate, quiet interiors where atmosphere was an essential part of the ritual and every gesture followed its own rhythm.

This is a rare piece to find, not only for the quality of its craftsmanship, but also for its state of preservation: intact, stable, with an authentic patina and no structural compromises.

Today, it can be reimagined with natural elegance: as a floor-standing candle holder, a dramatic wine or champagne cooler for refined settings, or a sophisticated fragrance diffuser, perfect for terraces, verandas, or eclectic interiors.

A fragment of the Ottoman world, able to speak to today’s most sophisticated environments — evoking oriental charm, rarefied atmospheres, and a slow, ritual sense of beauty.
