Cabriolet armchair, ready for new seasons

Elegant “cabriolet” armchair in carved limewood, made in Central Italy during the Louis Philippe period (circa 1830).

With a light structure and gently flowing lines, it features floral carvings on the seat rail, armrests, and crest rail, evoking the Louis XV style, reinterpreted with restraint according to early 19th-century taste.

The slightly inclined backrest, open armrests, and a generous, enveloping seat ensure comfort and ease of use.

Carefully restored, it has been reinforced, cleaned, polished with shellac and wax, and fully reupholstered using traditional methods, with vegetal horsehair padding and a feather-filled cushion — making it inviting to the eye even before being tried.

Its compact proportions suggest it was meant for a quiet corner, beside a table, in a reading or writing room.

Following our meticulous restoration, it has returned in excellent shape: solid, ready to resume its place in everyday life and do what it was made to do — offer support with the grace and firmness of well-made things, and the character that only time can impart.
