Solid walnut fall-front desk, Piedmont, Louis XV period.
The front features two wide drawers and a fall-front writing surface (calatoia), supported by two pull-out slides discreetly integrated into the structure, positioned at the sides beneath the top fascia.
The legs, elegantly curved in the late Baroque manner, are joined by a shaped apron that follows their profile, lightening the overall volume and lending movement and character to the piece—a well-balanced dialogue between strength and grace.
The desk is well built, entirely authentic, and in excellent condition. Restoration was kept to a minimum: light surface cleaning to preserve the original patina, and a warm wax treatment to enhance the natural tones and grain of the wood without altering its essence. Clean interiors, functional locks, and original bronze hardware.
Originally conceived as a writing desk and storage for documents, likely for the private quarters of a noble countryside residence, it retains an essential, grounded presence—solid but never heavy, authoritative yet full of personality.
Ideal for those seeking a genuine period piece, marked by time, to be lived with simplicity—perhaps with a few books or objects laid on top, without hurry.
