19th-Century Center Desk in Walnut Veneer – Central Italy, mid-1800s
A quiet, intimate corner with poetic elegance
This center desk, veneered in walnut, was crafted in Central Italy around the mid-19th century.
Its compact size and well-balanced proportions make it ideal for furnishing even small spaces with grace, offering a welcoming and informal study nook designed for everyday gestures.
Supported by original turned "onion" feet, it features practical drawers and doors on each side, along with an upper tier fitted with small drawers and an open compartment—perfect for keeping a few objects on display, in that kind of lived-in order that feels natural and real.
The leather-covered top includes a partially extendable central section, designed to increase the working surface: an ideal space for books, notebooks, or simply one’s daily thoughts.
The back, fully enclosed and carefully finished, recalls the look of a small lectern, allowing the desk to be placed either against a wall or freely in the center of a room.
Entirely original and carefully restored, this piece preserves all its romantic 19th-century charm, offering a discreet and authentic refuge—an invitation to calm, focus, and thoughtful presence.
