Bourbon Elegance, Smith Period Display Cabinet

Walnut Display Cabinet – Neapolitan Smith Period, circa 1830-1860

Two-door display cabinet veneered in fine walnut wood, belonging to the period known as the "Neapolitan Smith", which developed in Naples in the first half of the 19th century, particularly between 1830 and 1860. This era was of significant importance for Neapolitan cabinetry, influenced by the taste introduced by the English cabinetmaker John Smith, active at the Bourbon court, who introduced Anglo-Saxon models and solutions, later reinterpreted with refinement by local artisans.

Originally conceived for domestic representational use, the cabinet was intended to display porcelain, tableware, or collectible items.

It is characterized by rounded and essential forms, distinctive features of the Smith style, which favors clean surfaces and highlights the quality of materials, considered central.

The cabinet has been meticulously restored: structurally reinforced, cleaned of accumulated dirt, and re-polished with a spirit-based finish as originally intended, to protect and revive its elegance while preserving its originality and the charm of its antique patina.
