Pair of elegant cabriolet armchairs from the Luigi Filippo period (1835–1850), a refined example of mid-19th-century Italian craftsmanship.
Made of walnut wood, they feature a solid and harmonious structure characterized by soft, flowing lines.
The pear-shaped backrest and curved armrests with upholstered supports provide a comfortable and ergonomic seat, while the finely carved cabriole front legs lend the structure grace and lightness.
Completely original and carefully restored, the upholstery has been redone using the traditional technique of hand-sewn springs and layers of natural materials like vegetable horsehair and piccio, a period-specific craft ensuring a high-quality seat.
These armchairs are not merely functional furniture but authentic witnesses of an era, telling the story of mid-19th-century society.
They were the centerpiece of the drawing rooms of the emerging bourgeoisie, hubs of social and cultural life, where guests were welcomed to converse, sip tea, play cards or chess, smoke, listen to novels or poetry read aloud, and enjoy intimate concerts featuring pianos and string instruments, creating refined and convivial evenings.
Often paired with tea tables or small guéridons, they contributed to a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for relaxing and entertaining in company, wrapped in the elegance of the time.
Ideal for enhancing an elegant living room, a cozy reading corner, or a sophisticated commercial space, these armchairs remain a timeless example of beauty and a tribute to the taste and culture of the past.
